BREXITEER Andrea Leadsom sent a stern warning to Brussels as she vowed the UK “cannot be held against its will” in a customs union arrangement with the EU.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5’s John Pienaar, the House of Commons leader claimed MPs would never support a scenario in which the UK could not decide to leave a post-Brexit customs union arrangement. The Tory Brexiteer argued that under no circumstance the UK should be held to a customs arrangement backstop – set up in the event the UK does not reach a full agreement on the future trading relationship with the EU by the end of 2020.
She said: “It cannot be a decision that can be overturned by the European Union, it must be capable for the United Kingdom to decide to leave that customs arrangement and it cannot be something the European Union can then hold us to.
