Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday confirmed their cooperation in seeking an early conclusion of a Pacific trade pact, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
During their brief talks on the sidelines of a Group of Seven summit in Brussels, the two leaders agreed to promote cooperation in achieving a comprehensive, ambitious and high-level Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, the ministry said.
On North Korea, Abe briefed Obama about Pyongyang’s recent pledge to launch a reinvestigation into the fate of Japanese nationals it abducted decades ago, the ministry said.
The two leaders also agreed to continue working together on issues concerning North Korea.
