Asian Equities Open Mixed

Asian equity markets opened mixed on Thursday, as an uninspiring finish on Wall Street overnight and data due out of China kept investors on edge.

Overnight, U.S. stocks failed to hold record levels and finished narrowly mixed after Fed minutes mostly confirmed market expectations for a rate hike later this year. As a result, the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 0.15 percent, while the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq ended nearly flat.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 scaled a 15-year peak of 20,264 points, with a weaker yen overnight helping sentiment. In early Asian trade, the U.S. dollar was fetching 121.14 yen.
