Asian shares turned mixed early Thursday, as choppy trade in the mainland equity markets kept a lid on risk appetite in the region.
Overnight, Wall Street finished higher after the U.S. central bank said the economy and job market continued to strengthen. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 closed up 0.7 percent, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.4 percent.
China’s Shanghai Composite index quickly recouped losses of nearly 1 percent to trade flat, a day after chalking up its biggest one-day gain in one and a half weeks. The Shanghai bourse closed up 3.5 percent on Wednesday on hopes that Beijing could placate the volatility in its equity markets.
