The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has announced that after an eight-month ban, short selling would once again be permitted. Short-selling was banned at the height of last fall’s banking crisis after Lehman Brothers collapsed and other financial firms came under intense pressure as speculators drove down the value of individual stocks through a wave of short-selling.
