Asian Equities Mixed with Nikkei up 1%

Asian equity markets traded mixed on Wednesday. Overnight gains on Wall Street helped stocks in Japan and South Korea rebound, with the Nikkei leading gains after posting its worst drop since June 2012 on Tuesday.

Helped by some encouraging earnings and a steadier tone in emerging market currencies, the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 closed 0.7 percent higher, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.5 percent.

Chinese markets remain closed for the Lunar New Year holiday. Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng index lost early gains to trade unchanged.
