Republican House Speaker John Boehner and Obama aides have resumed talks in a sign of progress on averting the “fiscal cliff.”
No details were immediately available. President Barack Obama and Boehner spoke on the phone Wednesday, their first known conversation in nearly a week. Neither side provided details of the call.
With 3 1/2 weeks remaining before steep tax hikes and budget cuts are set to begin, Obama took his campaign to the home of a family in Northern Virginia on Thursday to illustrate the impact of letting taxes go up on the middle class.
“We’re in the midst of the Christmas season,” Obama said, sitting at a table in the Santana family’s Falls Church home. “I think the American people are counting on this getting solved. The closer it gets to the brink, the more stress there is going to be.”
