European stocks traded lower on Thursday, following a strong performance from Wall Street overnight and as oil prices edged slightly higher ahead of the Christmas holidays.
The pan-European STOXX 600 traded around 0.2 percent lower. The German DAX and a number of other markets were closed today, with other bourses opened for a shortened trading day.
Brent and WTI futures traded slightly higher, building on gains from Wednesday after a report from the Energy Information Administration showed U.S. crude stocks had fallen unexpectedly.
European energy stocks were boosted as a result of the rise in oil prices.
