Japan’s top three automakers marked record overseas production in October, due partly to brisk sales in North America and China, according to data released Thursday.
Toyota Motor Corp.’s overseas output increased 19.3 percent from a year earlier to 513,086 units, thanks to robust sales in the United States and Canada as well as China where the firm saw a sales slump last year due to boycotts of Japanese products resulting from a territorial dispute between Japan and China.
Nissan Motor Co. produced 384,220 units overseas, up 23.9 percent from a year earlier, while Honda Motor Co.’s overseas output rose 23.4 percent to 328,525 units, marking the 21st straight monthly increase.
As for exports, Toyota saw a rise of 6.6 percent to 163,839 units, and Honda’s were up 65.7 percent to 11,401 units. Nissan logged a 14.4 percent fall to 49,774 units.
Toyota’s domestic output for the month was at 289,961 units, up 9.4 percent from a year earlier, and that of Honda was up 13.3 percent at 90,707 units. Nissan posted a 19.4 percent fall to 81,274 units.
