Unemployment in the US rose to 9.8 percent in September with twenty-three states registering an increase. In total, 600,000 people lost their jobs last month, but there were some bright spots, particularly in the Midwest where Indiana added 4,400 jobs and Ohio saw its unemployment fall to 10.1 percent from 10.8 percent.
