UK retail sales beat estimate, US nonfarm payrolls sink, pound jumps

UK retail sales accelerated in July but the cup was only half full as the June figure was revised sharply lower. In the US, nonfarm payrolls slipped to 22 thousand, down from 79 thousand and well short of the market estimate of 75 thousand.
